EVA Air Labor-Management Talks Expected to Resume
Source: UDN
June 25, 2019
A silver lining has appeared after the six-day-strike launched by EVA Air flight attendants. After the Taoyuan City Flight Attendants Union stated on June 23 that it would not insist on a hike in per diems from NT$90 to NT$150 per hour (approx. from US$3 to US$5 per hour), the Union made a further concession yesterday, saying that there was room for discussions on adding a board director representing labor and on a “no free ride” clause aimed to ban non-union members from being covered by benefits gained through collective bargaining agreements, which drew divergent views between labor and management. However, the time to resume labor-management collective bargaining has yet to be finalized.
On the other hand, Clay Sun (孫嘉明), EVA Air president, stressed again yesterday that the company would never accept the two appeals, i.e., signing a “no free ride” clause and adding a member representing labor on the board of directors.
