On June 25, Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) criticized that the central government inefficiently handled the case of the Taipei Twin Towers development project and failed to prevent the EVA Air strike from happening, attacking the Tsai administration for incompetence because it regarded “adopting no measures” as “a measure.”
Yesterday, Ko also stated bluntly that the US would never let Taiwan declare independence, nor would it let Taiwan be reunified with the Mainland, adding that “so as for reunification or independence, let’s leave it to the next life.”
According to the media, with the conclusion of the DPP presidential primary, the DPP regarded a “Tsai-Lai ticket” as the most promising ticket for winning the 2020 presidential race, while Ko remained a big variable. When asked about the “Tsai-Ko ticket” by media outlets, Ko replied by saying that “a mayor can do a lot more than a vice president.” Moreover, added to the fact that Ko yesterday criticized the Tsai administration for incompetence regarding the prevention of the EVA Air strike, it showed that Ko had confidence in running for president, rather than being someone’s running mate.
