A United States naval research vessel, Sally Ride, arrived in northern Taiwan’s Keelung Port for the first time on Thursday to conduct a joint science project with National Taiwan University. R/V Sally Ride’s visit is reportedly associated with the US government’s policy on Taiwan and might appear to reveal some sensitive information to either side of the Strait, particularly as Taiwan’s January 11, 2020 general elections are approaching. In recent years, the United States has had closer cooperation with Taiwan in the spheres of outer space, meteorology, and hydrology. The R/V Sally Ride will stay until September 2nd.
