The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has listed an amendment bill that bans “Chinese Communist Party agents” as a priority bill for the upcoming Legislative session. In response, Liu Jieyi (劉結一), director of the Mainland’s Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) said yesterday during the 8th Cross-Strait Jurisprudential Forum held in Tianjin that the DPP government refused to recognize the 1992 Consensus based on the “one-China” principle and instead made every effort to prevent normal exchanges between people on both sides by all means, such as amending laws. The behavior indeed sabotaged cross-Strait relations, he said, adding that “any hostile move against people on both sides and trend is doomed to fail.” Liu also reiterated that “Taiwan’s prosperity hinges on good cross-Strait relations.”
