A few days ago, Annette Lu (呂秀蓮), a former Vice President, teaming up with Peng Pai-hsien (彭百顯), a former Nantou County Executive, registered at the Central Election Commission to launch a co-sponsorships drive for nominating them as an independent ticket to challenge President Tsai in the 2020 presidential race. Yesterday, with regard to disputes over Tsai’s academic credentials, the cigarettes smuggling case, and a briefcase containing NT$3 million in cash left behind by DPP legislator Chen Ming-wen (陳明文) on a Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) train, Lu urged Tsai to keep things simple, recommending that Tsai make public her doctoral dissertation and PhD diploma from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to clear up the public’s misgivings, and that the other two cases be completely clarified.

In addition, Lu also urged Tsai not to “leave everything to the criminal justice system for investigation,” which might give the public the impression that the courts were run by “a specific person.” Lu asked Tsai “Why do you pass the buck to the court if you could easily dissipate those misgivings?” Lu stated that she spoke on behalf of the public, as wherever she went, everyone kept asking about these disputes.
