Currently, a total of three TV media outlets, i.e., Public Television Service (PTS), Sanlih E-Television, and CTI Television Inc., have expressed a willingness to hold the 2020 presidential debates. In a statement issued yesterday, Taipei City Councilman Lo Chih-chiang (羅智強), who was in charge of the debate consultations for the campaign of KMT presidential candidate Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜), stressed that PTS was a publicly-run media outlet, so Han preferred to give the hosting rights of the debate to PTS according to past practices.

Lo criticized President Tsai Ing-wen for making various discriminating excuses and creating higher bars for the debate in order to insist on signing a debate agreement with the pro-Green Sanlih E-Television.

In response yesterday, Tsai stated that she didn’t have a preference for any particular media outlet, adding that after all, this was not the first time she ran for president.
