Killing of Police Officer: Mei Wen-kui Sentenced to 19 Years & 2 Months

At a karaoke parlor in Liouying District (柳營), Tainan City, on June 14 this year, Liu San-jung (劉三榮), an off-duty detective sergeant of the Taiwan City criminal police brigade, was found shot dead by suspect Mei Wen-kui (梅文魁). Yesterday, the Tainan District Court convicted and sentenced Mei to a total of 19 years and 2 months on charges of homicide and illegal possession of a firearm. The ruling may still be appealed.
According to the investigation by the prosecutors and police, as Mei had injured Liu’s eyes, the latter then took the initiative to make an appointment with the former in order to negotiate damages for the injury. However, during the negotiations on June 14, Mei had a quarrel with Liu, and then shot and killed Liu.
