After the KMT’s setbacks in the 2020 general elections, KMT legislator Johnny Chiang (江啟臣) fired the first salvo by tendering his resignation as a member to the KMT Central Standing Committee (CSC); yesterday, six other CSC members, including KMT legislator Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安), followed suit.

Johnny Chiang stated yesterday, “We, while CSC members, failed to make correct policy decisions to lead the KMT, causing the KMT to lose the support of the majority of voters. We must engage in thorough soul-searching and shoulder all the accountability for the electoral defeat.”

The KMT’s party central responded by saying that the term of current KMT CSC members should have expired in October last year, but in consideration of the 2020 presidential and legislative races, the KMT national party congress had resolved to extend their term until now, so there was no so-called issue of resignation. The KMT is slated to hold an election for new CSC members and a by-election for KMT chairmanship on the same day, March 7.
