On January 12, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), under the Ministry of Health and Welfare, dispatched two experts to Wuhan, Mainland China, for verification of the outbreak of pneumonia caused by a new type of coronavirus. In a press conference on January 16 after returning home, the experts gave an explanation to the public regarding the details of the pneumonia outbreak in Wuhan for the first time, stating that the possibility of limited human-to-human transmission could not be ruled out. The CDC also upgraded its travel alert to level two for Wuhan, effective immediately.
