After a Night’s Sleep, Tsai Ing-wen Has Reverted Taiwan to the Martial Law Rule Era

United Daily News Editorial (Taipei, Taiwan)

 Translation of an Excerpt

On New Year's Day 2020, the public after a night’s sleep, found that Taiwan had arrived in a new martial law rule era created by Tsai Ing-wen. The “Anti-Infiltration Bill” was rammed through the Legislative Yuan and successfully achieved her preset strategic objectives: Using the sense of losing one’s country to beckon anti-China sentiments to galvanize votes, and using a quasi martial law rule proclamation to create a chilling effect, attempting to block cross-Strait exchanges.

Tsai Ing-wen describes the PRC as a totalitarian regime, while she herself is in fact deploying in the same direction; she is using the “Anti-Infiltration Act” to fabricate social divisions while injecting nutrients for her electoral prospects. Her political acts are directing the DPP legislative caucus to move its tanks for suppressing democracy.

Witnessing Tsai Ing-wen's pampering Chen Shi-meng [a Control Yuan member], witnessing that more and more people have been visited by the police for “checking the water meters” once they criticize government policies online, and witnessing that many media outlets could only smear Han Kuo-yu, but could not criticize Tsai Ing-wen, who would believe that the “Anti-Infiltration Act” would not zero in on "specific identities or targets" for selective investigation? Who would believe that nothing would happen as long as "the offense is committed unintentionally or unknowingly"? Tsai Ing-wen has never personally experienced the White Terror of the martial law rule era, nor has she participated in activities struggling for democracy; thus, she doesn’t mind at all about the dragnet for political suppression that she herself has spread and loudly using patriotic slogans of the old era to deploy her "new martial law rule".

A single “Anti-Infiltration Act” has allowed Tsai Ing-wen to use a sense of losing one’s country to swindle votes, to pin “fellow travelers” labels on the KMT, and also to threaten supporters of Han Kuo-yu, halting political contributions, even laying the foundation for authoritarian, dictatorial rule. This is an evil, unconstitutional piece of legislation that spreads wide its driftnet, creates Green Terror, threatens democracy and freedom, and deprives people of their political rights. With only twelve simple articles, Tsai Ing-wen has beckoned the specter of a new martial law rule!
