The result of November’s Taichung mayoral election will play a crucial role in determining the political turfs of the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). In his bid for re-election, incumbent Taichung Mayor Jason Hu (胡志強) of the KMT is facing a serious challenge from his DPP opponent, legislator Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍). According to the latest survey conducted by the Taipei-based WantWant China Times Polling Center, Lin is leading with a 42.7% popularity rating, followed by Hu with 32%. In terms of their election prospects in the eyes of the public, Lin is leading Hu by 15.7% (39.9% vs. 24.2%)

In addition, the poll also revealed that 71.9% of the respondents confirmed that they would vote in the local elections on November 29, 12.2% would refuse to vote, and 15.9% were undecided.

The latest poll was conducted from July 4 to 7, 2014, with 867 people successfully surveyed. The margin of error associated with this sample is plus or minus 3.3% with a 95 % confidence interval.
